Shuwaikh
port is considered the main Commercial Port in the
country, it is located at Latitude 29° 21' North, and
Longitude 47° 56' East. It has a total land area of 3.2
million square meters and 1.2 million square meters water
basin area.
The port has 21 berths of which Berth Nos. 1 to 14 has a
depth of 10 meters each, and Berth Nos. 18 to 21 has a depth
of 8.5 meters each and Berth Nos. 15 to 17 with a depth of
6.7 meters each. Total length of all berths is 4055 meters.
Vessel traffic passes through a navigation channel dredged
within Kuwait bay, the length of which is about 8 kilometres
and 8.5 meters deep at minimum tide level. The port can
receive vessels of 7.5 meters draft at any tide condition
and vessels of 9.5 meters draft at high tide.

BERTH No.
1 Is used for Grain Carriers. It is equipped with a
grain elevator of 400-tons/hr. capacities, which
transfers such cargo to Grain Silos belonging to Kuwait
Flour Mills & Bakeries Company.

8 Is used for Bulk Cement Carriers. It is equipped with
a cement suction elevator of 400-tons/hr. capacities,
which transfers bulk cement to Cement Silo belonging to
Portland Cement Company, which is then bagged and
distributed to the local market.

BERTH Nos.
11, 12 & 13 Are Container berths, berth 12 & 13 are
equipped with two container gantry cranes with a
capacity of 40 tons each under the spreader in addition
to two mobile (Gatwald) gantry cranes with lifting
capacity of 35 tons each. Berth 11 has no cranes and is
used when berth 12 & 13 are occupied, vessel operation
is done by mobile gantry.

19 & 20 Are used for reefer vessels, there is a cold
store located between these berths with 11,500 tons of
cooling capacity. The store belongs to Refrigeration
Industries Company.

21 Is used for Livestock Carrier with a cattle pen
opposite the berth on an area of 25,700 square meters.
All other
berths are used to handle general cargo, East basin has a
depth of 3 meters, West basin has a depth of 3.35 meters and
the North basin has 6.7 meters, inside the North basin 10
small piers are located to berth Tugs, Pilot boats and other
Port service crafts.
There are within the port 12 warehouses covering an area of
171,191 square meter, top covered sheds of 15,250 square
meters, fenced and open storage area of 381,870 square
meters.
Shuwaikh container terminal is located to the North West of
Shuwaikh port, and has a total area of 26 hectors. The
terminal also has three CFS warehouses, which are located
within the port boundaries, and has a total area of 24,000
square meters. There are 128 electrical points for reefer
containers.
Customs inspection area with a capacity to handle 30
containers at one time is also situated within the port
premises.
